FAQ's

Will you spam my inReach?

Messages are saved in our secure logs (AWS Cloudwatch) for 30 days for debugging purposes only and are not shared or used for any other purpose than the instant auto-reply.

There are multiple fires nearby. How will you deal with long responses?

Messages are split into 160 character chunks (the maximum inReach message length) and sent as multiple messages.

Can I test how this works?

Yes - just message a latitude and longitude (US only) to (765) 553-4737 and you'll recieve a response. For example, on Google Maps, right click on any location on the map. Click on the GPS coordinates that appear in the tooltip and this will copy them to your clipboard. Paste this in a message and send, and you'll see the response for that location.

This doesn't seem to work with the inReach "Send Reference Point" feature.

Yes, I discovered this issue when testing the app. The "Send Reference Point" function of the inReach does not currently let the recipient successfully reply back to the sender. You can test this by sending a message to your own phone and trying to reply. I opened a support ticket with Garmin on this, but more tickets might get a faster resolution, so feel free to do the same.

How do I contact you?

Please contact me at joseph@xylex.net with questions or feedback. Please note this was a quick side project of mine so support may be limited and delayed.
